ENERGY AUDIT SERVICES

If you are experiencing:

  • High energy bills
  • Comfort issues with your heating & cooling systems
  • Poor indoor air quality
  • Drafty windows, doors or areas in your home
  • Anxiety anticipating electric deregulation and the 20-30% rate hikes coming in December of 2010
  • A desire to minimize your impact on the environment

We can help you with a comprehensive professional Energy Audit

We will:

  • Discuss with you the issues and concerns that have led you to request an audit
  • Walk through the house to see all rooms and areas
  • Conduct a safety test of combustion equipment and estimate efficiency levels
  • Inspect the insulation levels of the home
  • Be on the look out for safety issues and bulk water infiltration
  • Leak test accessible gas lines
  • Conduct a computerized blower door test
  • Perform zonal testing throughout with computerized equipment
  • Inspect for drafty areas while the blower door is operating
  • Quantify exactly how “leaky” your home is
  • Analyze 1 year of past gas/electric bills
  • Discuss results and retrofit solutions that are appropriate for your home
  • Follow up with a comprehensive proposal for the work

It is very important to take a whole-house approach when considering comfort or energy upgrades. We tend to address the supply side of the equation only (heating and cooling equipment) and neglect the demand side (insulation levels, air-sealing, behavior, efficient technology). A holistic approach is a win-win.

On average, the investments you make on the energy retrofits will pay themselves back in energy savings in a short seven years. Therefore, with measures that are designed to last the life of your home, after seven years, or shorter with the escalating energy cost (de-regulation next year), you can be repaid on your investment and be more comfortable in your home. An example of a misunderstood SIR (savings to investment ratio) is new windows: New windows make a house look better BUT, unless they are falling out, it will take you about twenty-five years to get a pay back on them. (And the misleading window marketing continues with guarantees of 40 % energy saving). In addition, when the energy retrofit is completed, upon resale, your home can qualify for an Energy Efficient Mortgage or EEM.

Let my passion for building science go to work for you. Call today so we can discuss whether an Audit would be beneficial. We can quickly determine this and will never move ahead with an audit unless there is real opportunity for improved comfort and savings.
